Blogging

I'm not happy with LiveJournal. I mean, it's all right for me: I have a permanent account. But when I'm accidentally logged out, and I go to a page of mine, and I see an advert pop up with the message "Your LiveJournal experience will follow after this message"... well, then I start wondering why I don't choose what appears on my own blog.

My birthday is tomorrow. I think I may make a new start and post everything primarily to Dreamwidth from now on, maybe with one of those things which crossposts but you have to go to Dreamwidth in order to comment. Would any of you comment less if that happened?

I can still keep up with you all using RSS; I am magic, being a coder, and can tell my RSS reader to log in to read friendslocked posts.

I want to start making a day post every day, even when nothing happened. You know what they say about the unexamined life.

I would also like to syndicate public posts to thomasthurman.org, and have that be the primary way most people read my blog.

When people IM me out of the blue, so that I'm working in another program and a notification pops up, very often what they're sending me is a URL they want me to look at.

I would rather like it if notifications which contained only a URL had a "Follow" button, like this:

Then I could either dismiss the message, or go and see what they were talking about, without having to switch back to Empathy on the way.

I raised bug 640917 about this today, in case anyone else happens to agree with me that this would be nifty.

Fin has made a doll called Llinos which is like me, which is a rather awesome thing. She has found Llinos a coat and mittens just like mine.

Here is Llinos (this also shows you how deep the snow is here!):

Here am I (not wearing my mittens):

Pretty cool, no?

I spent perhaps too much of today coding. I didn't really mean to spend quite that long on it, though it was a lot of fun. Will Thompson's help fixing DBus problems was invaluable. Version 0.50 of imgur integration will be coming to a Maemo repository near you soon:

Later, since it's my birthday tomorrow, we went out for a curry. It was pretty good, but rather mild. I was amused that the people at the next table to us were clearly English as well. Then we went to the bookshop, came home, and had some coffee. A pretty good day, all told.
