The day after
Sep. 28th, 2010 07:30 pmToday I was thinking about the Matter of Britain. Suppose T.H.White was right about Merlyn's memory working backwards, so he remembered the future and not the past. The day after the last battle must have been so sad and confusing for him.
Yesterday
Someone took my master's life away,
And I'm starting to suspect le Fay,
But naught I know of yesterday.
Still I fear.
All the past is dark, the future's clear,
But it seems there was a battle here,
I'm sure it's over Guinevere.
Soon at Avalon he'll be gone beneath the clay.
Now I'm left behind, and I'm blind to yesterday.
Yesterday?
Maybe if they write a roundelay,
I'll discover when the words portray
The death of Arthur yesterday.
