Psoriasis

Yesterday I read something online where someone said they were sick of people not knowing about a hidden disability they had, and they wanted to tell people they had it, so that people wouldn't go around thinking they didn't know anyone with the condition.

So I took one of the photos Carmen took of my skin which didn't show my face or genitals, cropped it, and posted it to /r/pics on reddit along with the text
Dear reddit, I have severe psoriasis over almost 90% of my body. It's itchy and painful. If you meet someone with this problem, be nice to them.
Very soon someone came along who suggested I should post an AMA (ask-me-anything) post, so I did, and that generated a lot more interesting discussion.

I woke up this morning to over 1,500 comments across the two posts, as well as about a dozen PMs, including two people who work for skincare companies who wanted to send me cream, and one from a postdoc researcher who wanted to know whether I'd like to be involved in a study. The comments contained the usual random arguments and meme references, but also a lot of suggestions about medication and diet, a story about how psoriasis saved some guy in El Salvador from being mugged, debate about my perceived gender, and two people who thought it would help if I started smoking a lot of pot. All together, I think this was a pretty useful post.
