Fixing Joule

So let's see if we can have Joule online again by midnight. I'll be liveblogging it here.

We need to:

1. get coffee

DONE.

2. back everything up

DONE.  It's 2.1Gb.

3. find out how many users are on the raisin system

DONE. There are 18760 (about 5% of the total, but the most regular users are on it)

4. convert them back to currant

DONE

5. roll back the comparator to use currant

DONE

6. turn everything on again and hope it works

DONE...

Here is a question: how will people know when it's back?  Should I just leave it to word of mouth, or announce it somewhere?  And if I should announce it-- where?

I have been obsessively checking out the Joule site every day since it went down. I'm glad that you're getting it back up!

I first read about it on lj_nifty, I believe. Maybe just re-announce that it's back up? Or I can innocently post about it, pretending to not have read the original one years ago...

I don't really know how or where to put this if you were to announce it. Maybe you could as LJ to say someting on the front page? I am thinking that maybe word of mouth is enough because thats how we got to you in the first place, or at least i did, and if this were the business sector you have the corner in it :)

Thank you for all your hard work, this is no small script and post type thing. It seems like a great undertaking and I appreciate it. Its intresting and has helped me spot two Russian bots trying to follow me. I actually think that LJ should purchase the code from you to have it as a part of the LJ software.

I do have an LJ account but I'm too lazy to log in on this browswer and its boring.

I've been checking daily foreeeeeever, so I'm super giddy to know that it'll be back up soon! Part of me says "Just let people find it again..." but that's because I'm selfish. ;)

I was almost ready to give up and remove the link from my journal. But it's finally coming, yay!

I think word of mouth will be enough. And maybe lj-nifty. You are implementing some changes so it's valid to post there, right?

At the moment I'm bringing it back just as it was. I have a list of changes I want to make (including Dreamwidth support) once that's done, though.
